Top Collector Awards

Launched in 2019, the annual Top Collector Awards provide an opportunity for Interchange Recycling to recognize 30 B.C. Return Collection Facility (RCF) businesses for exemplary performance and commitment to the collection of used oil and antifreeze materials across the province.

Criteria used to determine the top collectors includes:

  • total amount of used oil and antifreeze collected at the location
  • total number of years participating in Interchange Recycling’s RCF Program
  • demonstration of continued support of Interchange Recycling and other recycling stewardship related programs.

2023 Top Collectors:

“Our ability to properly recycle and re-introduce used materials back into B.C.’s circular economy is important work that requires growing infrastructure to enable safe collection, handling, and storage,” said David Lawes, CEO, Interchange Recycling. “All of our dedicated collection sites across the province contribute to keeping our local communities stronger and healthier thanks to their ongoing commitment to keeping oil, filters, antifreeze and their containers, out of landfills. We wanted to recognize these 30 facilities who collected the most in 2023, and recognize them for going above and beyond to provide an important service to local residents.”

2020 Top 30 Collectors:

“These B.C. organizations are some of the most dedicated used oil and antifreeze Return Collection Facilities in Canada,” said David Lawes, CEO, BC Used Oil Management Association. “They continue to provide convenient, environmentally-friendly and easy-to-use infrastructures for their DIY customers to return their used oil and antifreeze materials. Their efforts were even more impressive throughout 2020 due to the pandemic, as they had to navigate their way through many additional challenges to ensure their customers were comfortable and safe while returning their materials. We feel proud to work with such professional businesses across the province, and we are honoured to provide them with these awards that recognizes their commitment to Interchange Recycling’s RCF program, and their continued outstanding performance.”

“We are extremely proud of these 30 BC used oil recycling facilities that received the ‘Top Collector’ award. They all took the necessary steps to ensure that their used oil recycling infrastructure is easy to use, convenient and environmentally friendly. Many of the organizations applied for and received RCF infrastructure grants, which provided them with modified sea containers to facilitate the responsible collection and management of used oil, antifreeze, filters and containers” said David Lawes, Executive Director, BC Used Oil Management Association. “We launched the ‘Top Collectors’ recognition program to thank the dedicated RCF operators for participating in our program, and to create enthusiasm amongst the RCF staff for doing what can sometimes be a messy job.”
