Interchange Recycling Expands its Program to Accept All Empty Automotive Containers Across B.C.
• NewsWe are very pleased to announce that we have expanded our program to include 11 additional automotive container categories across British Columbia.
The expanded list now includes Automotive Adhesives, Automotive Aerosols, Brake Fluid, Conditioners, Degreasers, Fuel System Cleaners, Lubricants, Automotive Sealers, Solvents, and Stabilizer containers. All containers must be empty and free of any remaining product before being accepted.
Previously, the program was limited to oil and antifreeze containers. This expansion makes it easier for residents to recycle a broader range of automotive containers through Interchange Recycling’s existing network, eliminating the need to seek out alternative disposal options, and reflects a continued commitment to supporting a comprehensive and environmentally responsible recycling system for automotive products.
“Interchange Recycling is continuously improving our program and prioritizes the circular economy. By expanding our program to include all types of automotive containers, we are making it convenient for residents of British Columbia to recycle these materials more effectively with a trusted partner,” said Jenn Robson, Director of Operations, Interchange Recycling. “The containers accepted under the program are recycled into new products such as oil containers, drainage tiles, and parking curbs, ensuring they are properly recycled and put back into use.” adds Robson.
Automotive containers are defined in the 2025 BC Recycling Regulation Amendment as any containers that hold fluids, gels, greases, waxes, creams, and aerosols designed for use in the maintenance or repair of a motor vehicle. Products used to clean or maintain the interior or exterior surfaces of a vehicle (e.g. car wax or upholstery shampoo) are not accepted in the program.
