Interchange Recycling Announces Consultation on Proposed Changes to Approved EPR Plan

News

Interchange Recycling is inviting stakeholder feedback on proposed updates to its approved Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Plan in accordance with British Columbia’s Recycling Regulation.

The Interchange Recycling Program Plan was formally approved in August 2025, which included the addition of empty automotive containers. Following this approval, we initiated a structured implementation process to ensure readiness across all operational areas. Interchange commenced a phased rollout that included internal system updates, stakeholder communication, operational training, and adjustments to collection and processing procedures for our April 1, 2026 launch date.

The Recycling Regulations Amendment to Schedule 2 (released in October 2025) now includes additional container sizes and residual liquids. The amended recycling regulation formally broadened the scope of designated materials, requiring our program to consider incorporating additional automotive-related containers and residuals into our recovery systems. Interchange will be submitting a revised Plan to the Ministry of Environment on June 30th, 2026.

Draft amendments to the EPR Plan are available below and on the Interchange Recycling website for public review through June 19, 2026. Stakeholders are invited to provide written feedback by email during the consultation period from May 8 to June 19th to jrobson@interchangerecycling.com.
