Congratulations to Our 2025 Tomorrow Grant Recipients
• Community Engagement
At Interchange Recycling, we recognize the growing need to attract more young people into careers that protect our environment and support sustainable practices in the automotive sector. With that in mind, we are proud to have introduced the Tomorrow Grant, two new scholarships designed to support Canadian students pursuing Environmental Studies or Automotive Trades. Each scholarship is valued at $2,500 and reflects our commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders. We are excited to announce our inaugural winners!
Addyson Murphy, a student from Maple Ridge, has been awarded the Tomorrow Grant for her passion and dedication to protecting British Columbia’s waterways. This fall, she will begin her studies in Environmental Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), with a focus on contaminant hydrology, the study of how pollutants move through water systems. Her goal is to help communities restore and protect the province’s natural environments.
“Starting my studies at SFU is an important step toward my goal of specializing in contaminant hydrology,” said Murphy. “Thanks to support from Interchange Recycling, I’m one step closer to using science to create real solutions that protect our waterways and communities.”
Murphy’s love for B.C.’s ecosystems began with childhood adventures in rivers and forests. A high school watershed trip, where she witnessed firsthand the impact of pollution on a once-thriving stream, solidified her commitment to a career in environmental protection.
Our second Tomorrow Grant has been awarded to Max Wassenas of Kelowna, who is beginning the Automotive Technician Apprenticeship Program at Okanagan College. Driven by a passion for how vehicles work and a desire to share his knowledge with others, Max sees his role in the trades as more than just technical, it’s about advancing sustainability in an industry that has a significant environmental impact.
“Part of being a responsible technician is understanding the environmental impact of the work we do,” Wassenas explained. He emphasizes the importance of responsible recycling practices for automotive waste, if improperly handled, can cause severe harm to ecosystems.
Max believes that organizations like Interchange Recycling play a critical role in shifting the automotive industry toward greater environmental accountability. “While we may not be able to eliminate all environmental impacts overnight, supporting and participating in ethical recycling practices helps mitigate the damage,” he shared.
His vision extends beyond repairing vehicles, he hopes to contribute to a culture where both car owners and professionals make more sustainable choices, supported by free and accessible recycling programs.
Building a More Sustainable Future
“A sustainable future depends on passionate individuals committed to protecting our environment and promoting responsible recycling practices,” said Jenn Robson, Director of Operations, Interchange Recycling. “Whether through environmental studies or the automotive trades, students today will shape the way we manage resources and reduce waste for years to come. These scholarships are an investment in young leaders who share our vision for a cleaner, more sustainable British Columbia.”
We are proud to recognize Addyson Murphy and Max Wassenas as the 2025 Tomorrow Grant recipients. Their passion, dedication, and vision for a sustainable future reflect the values that drive our work at Interchange Recycling.
Congratulations to both recipients, we can’t wait to see the positive impact you will make in your communities and beyond!
